Damaris Lambros
Many people told me I needed to put real dreams in my head and that someone from such a small town would never be able to achieve my dreams. I got laughed at by teachers and friends when I told them my dreams of wanting to move to Los Angeles and become a music artist. I didn't wanna me a teacher or a doctor. I wanted to play music for millions of people and have them enjoy it. My dreams came true and guess who is laughing now.
My name is Damaris Lambros, but everyone calls me Maris. I am twenty years old and I was born and raised in a small New Jersey town, about thrity minutes outside of New York City. I was raised by my Greek-American father, Phillip, and my Chinese & Irish American mother, Dana. I have one older sister, Callista, who is 26 and my best friend in the world and a older brother, Jason, who is 24 and basically acts as if he were a second father to me. My family means the world to me and have been the ones who encouraged me to not give up on my dream, because they knew it was what I wanted to do.
I picked up my first guitar when I was twelve years old. My dad played a little bit and I really wanted to learn. He taught me a few songs and I fell in love with it. Whenever I would have a bad day at school I would come home and just write music and play for hours. Some people rely on alcohol and drugs, I rely on music. It was my escape and a passion that I had. I knew that this was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
When I heard about the American Idol Auditions happening, I decided to give it a shot. We were visiting my family in Boston and I thought it wouldn't hurt to give it a shot. I never thought it would end up the way it did. I ended up coming in second place, behind Lee DeWyze. A couple weeks after the show I was signed to Jive Records. The experience was incredible and the people I met were going to be my best friends for life. I never had so much fun in my life, it was a lot of work though. I am still dreaming that I have fans out there who support me and that I am actually in the process of making my album.
Now that the show was over I would be heading on tour with the rest of the Top 10. I couldn't wait and I knew that this was going to be the best summer ever. Who wouldn't want to play in front of thousands of people every night in sold out arenas across the country. It was insane.
-------
I swung open the door to the tourbus and strugged with my suitcases and trying to keep the door open.
I just landed in Michigan, which was where the first show was kicking off. I was in Los Angeles doing interviews and all that fun stuff with Lee, while the others were here getting ready to kick off the show. It was kicking off in a couple of days and I couldn't wait.
"A little help here girls!" I yelled onto the bus.
I smiled when I saw Didi Benami make her way towards the bus enterance. She let out a laugh and hurried down the stairs and wrapped me in a hug.
"Maris is here!" She yelled, "How are you?"
"I'm good! So excited!" I squealed.
Didi was the bubbly and sweet one of the group. We all make fun of her, because she is so emotional and cries over everything, but she's one of the sweetest girls ever. She came in tenth on the show, but the short time I spent with her we became pretty good friends. She always had a way to make me laugh, even when she wasn't trying too.
"Hey!" Siobhan Magnus said as she walked down the stairs and grabbed one of my suitcases.
"Hi!" I gave her a small hug.
Siobhan was the strange one of the group, she said some of the most off the wall comments. She had a huge voice and some of the notes she hit were just crazy. Siobhan came in sixth on the show. I always got the vibe that she wasn't a huge fan of me, but I wouldn't say he hate one another. She was always nice enough to me, but kinda closed off. She never opened up to me like she did with the others and I'm not sure why. Out of everyone in the Top 10 she was the one I was least closest too. I'm hoping spending hours on a bus together will bring us closer, because I really did want to have a better friendship with her.
"How was your flight?" Siobhan asked.
"Okay. It didn't crash, so that's a plus." I said, laughing awkwardly, "Um. Where's Katie?"
"Getting prettied up." Didi smiled.
"Of course." I smiled.
Katie Stevens was the little sister of the group and one of my best friends. She came in 8th place on the show and was kicked off way to early in my opinion. She was younger then me, but she was so mature for her age. Katie was one of those people who I could talk about anything too and she would listen and give me the best advice she could. We had plans to move out to Los Angeles together, after this was all over. She hasn't been signed yet, but mark my word she will be soon. She's got the look and a amazing voice. She's going places.
"I'm here! I'm here!" Katie said, tossing her hands in the air as she made her way down the stairs and over to me.
"Hey love!" I hugged her.
"We already picked out our bunks, you're on the top across from me!" Katie said.
"Oh yay! I get to wake up to this ray of sunshine every morning." I smiled, as I followed Didi and Siobhan onto the bus, "Damn! They really gave us the works. This is like Britney Spears status!"
"I know! How awesome is this." Katie gushed.
"We have it so much better then the guys too! It's six of them on the bus, plus your brother! It's going to be so messy and smelly." I said to Katie.
"They are already saying they are going to have so much more fun then us!" Didi smiled.
"Yeah right. Lee and I had that argument the whole plane ride here, they are delrious."
"Cause you guys are like a old married couple." Siobhan said.
Lee DeWyze was the winner of the competition and probably one of the coolest guys I have ever met. He was my buddy since I met him and Hollywood week and everyone always says we belong together. I'm not going to lie the guy is adorable and a sweetheart and maybe I did have a little innocent crush on him, but nobody besides Katie knew that. Lee had a girlfriend back at home. I met her a few times and she was a pretty big bitch. They were constantly fighting, but he claims they are in love. I'm not going to judge, but I think he deserves better then that. He was my best friend and I would support him if he was happy.
"Are not." I said quickly.
"You girls ready?" Our busdriver, Kevin clasped his hands as he stepped on the bus.
"Yes!" Didi said in a sing song voice.
"Auburn Hills here we come! Brace yourselves!" I said.
